HISTORIC REMODELING

Our favorite

At JK Construction, we understand that historic restorations and renovations bring a different perspective to hiring the right contractor.  There is a lot of information out there, and it can be difficult to make sense of it. One of the things we enjoy most about what we do is the opportunity to educate homeowners so they can make the most informed decisions about a historic restoration and renovation.

Ultimately, we want you to have as much information as possible so you can be comfortable knowing that you are making the best possible decisions for your project. We thrive on the unique challenges of restoring and renovating historic homes. Let us help you tackle your challenge. We've got this.

Historic properties

They say you should never have a favorite child, right? Well, the same could probably be said about construction projects; we probably shouldn't choose a favorite. We're going rogue here and just laying it out there - Historic Remodels are our favorite.

If we could hand pick our jobs every year, you could bet there'd be some historic properties that make it on the list. Learning about the history of a project brings life to the bones of historic properties and we love restoring the beauty that once was.

Historic Renovation for Barn exterior
Entertainment area of remodel by JK Construction

The pictures above are the exterior and interior of a barn now used as an event center. It is hard to imagine the time when it originally was a warm home for goats, horses, and sheep filled with stalls and troughs.

We were contracted to convert the lower barn area into a level concrete area for plenty of dancing, creating a bar area for food service, reinforcing the entire structure to ensure safety, and also creating a second floor for extra seating and entertainment.

What a beautiful property for events! The Lock, Stock and Barrel is located in Olathe, CO and is available to rent out. Check out their website at The Lock, Stock and Barrel

Historic restoration

In the picture to the left and the one to follow are another example of one of our all-time favorite historic restoration and renovation projects.   We take you through the original home where it began as a one room shack in 1898, then to another renovation completed around the 1980's and then our final renovation in 2010.

Key factors when looking to restore historic structures include maintaining the original character, and ensuring materials and methods are true to the time period while also appealing to the current needs of the homeowner. In the historic remodel from above, when we were completing part of the demolition, we unearthed some of the original siding from 1898.

What a treasure! The owners were just as excited as we were and wanted to be able to use what we found. In the picture of the interior hallway, you can see how we incorporated the original wall and siding. Talk about unique and honoring the hard work of the past.

An iconic home

Another beautiful historic restoration and renovation can be found upon walking into this next home from the early 1900's. It's an iconic home around our neck of the woods. One look at the outside, and many people can name exactly where it is located. It was an honor to be able to make this home more efficient for the owners while maintaining its' history. The second image shows the finished kitchen.
